I used to place the Christian Democrats above the major parties whenever I voted. But I have stopped doing that since the Christian Democrats used their position in the NSW upper house to make sure that ethics classes are only offered to students after they have turned down scripture classes, as opposed to students being offered a free choice between ethics classes and scriptures. I have nothing against Christians and Christian education but I believe in freedom of religion including the freedom to have no religion. I believe that the freedom to have no religion was compromised by placing obstacles in the way of obtaining access to the non-religious equivalent of scripture classes.
The other problem with the Christian Democrats is that their focus is very narrow. They have no position on many topics of great importance to families.
I have shared the stage once with Sonny Susilo in a community question and answer forum. He was pleasant and I have nothing negative to report from my interactions with and observations of him. He lives in Blakehurst which is outside the Barton electorate.
